Iris is the Greek goddess of the Rainbow, and the personification of what was believed to be the goddesses dress. She had golden wings attached at the shoulder, and winged sandals on her feet. Iris restored calm and balance to the natural world after a storm, hence the rainbow is her predominant symbol.
